Smart Winter Travel with Extended Stay Hotels

November 24, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack

When considering good places for fall and winter travel, destinations like Florida and Arizona typically come to mind.  Snowbirds annually flock to these spots to escape the wintry chill.  Seasoned travelers to these areas know that Extended Stay Hotels offers clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable rate during the winter months and year 'round in both states.

For those looking to escape the snowbirds as well as the snow, there’s another option: the San Francisco Bay Area.  From November through April, you can access world class sites without having to put up with the crush of summer tourists.  Plus, the average daytime temperatures are comfortably in the 60s.

While the San Francisco region may have a reputation for high priced hotels, you can find great rates on large, comfortable rooms at any of the 16 Extended Stay Hotels across the region.  Included among these terrific properties is the Extended Stay America Fairfield - Napa Valley Hotel.

This beautiful hotel is just 15 miles from the beginning of the world famous Silverado Trail. Called the Napa Valley’s Road Less Traveled, the Silverado Trail parallels Napa’s more heavily traveled St. Helena Highway, but still takes you past thousands of acres of the world’s best wine vineyards.  Be sure to stop at one of the area’s great wineries for tasting and a very special memento of your trip.

Two of natures wonders, the Old Faithful Geyser and the Petrified Forest, are nearby sights well worth the time to stop and explore.  You don’t have to travel to Yellowstone Park to see one of nature’s geologic timepieces.  Just minutes from the Silverado Trail is California’s Old Faithful Geyser with its regular steam eruptions that occur about every 30 minutes.

And just minutes from Old Faithful is another of nature’s wonders, the Petrified Forest.  This hike of about a half mile takes you back in time millions of years.  As the result of a major volcanic eruption about 3.4 million years ago, giant trees were trapped under tons of ash, ultimately being turned into stone.

Winter weather need not stifle your travel plans, even in places we think might be beyond our budget.  With low rates, comfortable accommodations and proximity to world class tourist attractions, Extended Stay Hotels is the ideal choice in the San Francisco Bay Area and hundreds of major cities coast to coast.

Extended Stay Hotels for Business Travel

When none other than the New York Times says that cost cutting in business travel is “the new normal,” you know that this is not the typical recession.  Like none before it, this business slowdown is having permanent impacts on the traveling life of just about every road warrior.

According to one senior executive at American Express, past abilities to skirt travel budget restrictions may be a permanent thing of the past.  It is up to each business traveler to find the arrangements that stay within budget, but don’t make life on the road unbearable.

Fortunately, staying within budget does not mean staying in tiny motel rooms that offer zero comfort.  While Extended Stay Hotels cannot do anything about the high cost of airlines or gasoline, they do offer some key ways to keep the boss happy, the accounting department satisfied and the traveler comfortably productive.

Great rates and productive surroundings – All it takes is a quick glance at the Extended Stay Hotels website to see what a great value these hotels offer.  Even in major metropolitan areas, like Boston or Chicago, Extended Stay Hotels currently offers clean, comfortable rooms for under $65 per night.  Any boss will love that price.  Special weekly rates are also available for longer stays.

Every Extended Stay Hotels room includes the space and tools you needed to be comfortable and productive on the road.  Extras like wireless internet access for a nominal fee, free local phone calls and voicemail, and a separate area for work keep productivity and morale high.

Direct billing – Accounting departments love the no hassle direct billing offered by Extended Stay Hotels.  Once you join, your bill from any of the almost 700 hotels nationwide is handled through a single department.  No lost receipts and no hassles.

Large, comfortable rooms - Each of the Extended Stay Hotels is built to deliver large, comfortable accommodations at reasonable rates.  Every studio has a full kitchen and separate work area.  After a long day of working, few things are better than a simple, quiet meal and a great night’s sleep.

Meeting today’s need for cost effective company travel is no easy task.  However, making Extended Stay Hotels your preferred travel option is a great move in the right direction.

Simple Things

November 11, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Most of us know that the simplest ideas are often the most powerful.  This is certainly the case for many of the travel tips we use and enjoy.  Road Warrior would like to share a few of those simple, but very handy hints in the hope it makes your trips as enjoyable as possible.

Airline travel may be the quickest way to reach your destination, but it can also be very stressful.  Early morning flights, unhealthy food at airports and scrunched seating can leave anyone ready to scream.

The website about.com has several great articles on travel stress, including this one covering everything from planning ahead to a few easy exercises to help you along.  Among the suggestions is to eat well before leaving, an idea easier suggested than followed.

If a nutritious breakfast before leaving home isn’t possible, here is one way to stay healthy.  Fill one of those large travel coffee mugs with your favorite healthy dry cereal before leaving home.  Once in the boarding area, purchase a container of nonfat milk and you are set.  Be sure to bring a plastic, not metal, spoon.  The mug is also great while traveling for when you make coffee or tea in your Extended Stay Hotels studio before heading out for the day.

One unlikely relaxation tool for the feet is the golf ball.  If tension tends to impact your feet, remove your shoes, place a ball on the floor and roll your feet over it.  For obvious reasons, DO NOT try to stand on the ball.  To keep fellow passengers safe, you might practice this in your Extended Stay Hotels studio before trying it on a moving airplane.

Maintaining the safety of your possessions while traveling can be another stress builder.  There are, however, a few simple and inexpensive ways to protect your belongings.  For example, mountaineering carabiners have a multitude of uses.  You can clip carry-on bags to your seat or bench, clip multiple bags together or any number of other connections.

Taping a business card to the top of your laptop may help you regain your computer should you accidentally leave it at the security checkpoint.

Road Warrior saved the simplest tip for last.  A successful trip, for business or pleasure, begins by booking a large, comfortable and convenient room where you feel at home while away.  With over 700 hotels from coast to coast, Extended Stay Hotels has just the right place for your next trip.

Time to Hit the Slopes

November 3, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack

If the timing of the first ski resort opening is any indication, this is going to be a banner year for winter sports.  According to USA Today, the opening of the Loveland Ski Area in Colorado on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, was among the earliest ever.

Whether you ski or snowboard, hitting the slopes for the day may be fun, but it can be grueling and tiresome.  While some exhausted skiers must head out to restaurants after a day full of exertion, the smart ones have popped microwave popcorn, cracked a cold beverage from the full size refrigerator and prepared a hot meal cooking on the stove.  All this without even leaving their extra-large room.

These smart skiers are, of course, staying at Extended Stay America Denver - Lakewood West hotel, just 38 miles from the slopes.  All Extended Stay Hotels studios have features like full kitchens, plenty of room for ski equipment and self-service laundry facilities, amenities that you don’t get in most hotels, not to mention fancy resorts

Believe it or not, the second ski resort to open was in Las Vegas, Nevada, of all places.  The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is just 45 minutes north of one of America’s great desert playgrounds.  Even in this land of glitter, Extended Stay Hotels offers four Las Vegas locations, all with fully equipped, extra large rooms, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes.  And all offer great rates for adventure-seekers on a budget.

If you are ready to take on an Olympic-level challenge, head for Park City, Utah and stay at the Extended StayAmerica Salt Lake City - Union Park hotel in nearby Midvale, just 30 miles away.

Relive the excitement of the 2002 Winter Games with a visit to Utah Olympic Park in Park City.  After you’ve seen where records fell, hit the slopes and set some personal bests at places like Snowbird, The Canyons and Wolf Mountain

When the day is done and you feel the burn, relax in your large, spacious room in any of the five Extended Stay Hotels in Salt Lake City
