Packing with Plastic

In an earlier blog, Road Warrior suggested traveling with wrinkle resistant clothing. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. Even though Extended Stay Hotels (sm) locations offer irons and ironing boards, business trips afford little time for early-morning chores, like pressing a wrinkly shirt. So, pack smartly.
Put each wrinkle-prone item in its own large bag, the ones you get from the dry cleaners (no hangers). Lay them flat in a stack, one on top of the other, and then fold the entire stack to fit in your suitcase. When you arrive at your Extended Stay Hotel, just put everything on hangers and enjoy your trip virtually wrinkle free.
Having this much plastic in you suitcase may cause other items to slide around. Solve this by packing the remaining items, like underwear, in large zip-close bags. This also makes it easier to find particular items.

With age comes wisdom, along with some other, less desirable attributes. One of these is a reduction in hearing acuity. This can make the “wake-up call” difficult.
Road Warrior may have come across at least one answer – the vibrating alarm clock. While Road Warrior doesn’t endorse any specific product, one maker – Shake Awake – seems to have a hot seller on their hands. Just set the alarm time, place the clock inside the pillowcase, but under the pillow, and you are awakened by a gentle, but persistent shaking.

Traveling with Family - Part Two

Keeping children well fed with high energy food is crucial during family travel. Although an occasional meal out is a great treat, dining regularly at fancy restaurants will bust the budget, and grabbing fast food will bust the waistline. Plan travel snacks like fruit, crackers, and nuts that are tasty and nutritious. If your destination hosts a farmer's market, the whole family can enjoy an educational experience as well as sample the local fare. Once you've loaded up on fresh foods, you'll be happy your Extended Stay Hotels (sm) room has a full sized refrigerator and cook top.
Most kids keep in touch with their friends by texting on their phones or updates through websites like Myspace and Facebook, so be sure you bring along a Wi-Fi enabled laptop and hook into the wireless Internet available at all Extended Stay Hotels.
If your trip might take you into Canada or Mexico, even for just a couple of hours, be sure to have passports for everyone. According to the United States State Department, all children, regardless of age, must have their own passport. The passport process can be difficult, especially for the first time, so be sure to allow plenty of time.
Traveling with Family - Part One

Travel is a great experience for children as they learn new things about new places. If done right, travel can also teach children about being flexible and being part of a team. Road Warrior would like to offer a couple of suggestions that will help make family travel fun and economical.
Avoiding peak travel times where possible saves money and reduces the time you spend in long lines or traffic jams. Check with your children’s school to see if it has an independent study program. Some elementary schools allow students to substitute a journal about their travel for a limited number of days in class.
Cramming the entire family into a small motel room is no fun. That’s where Extended Stay Hotels, with large studio rooms, can make a big difference. When the whole family can spread out in a spacious suite, the trip becomes more enjoyable for everyone.
