Tips on Packing for your Next Trip
February 24, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Packing tips are becoming a recuring theme on this blog, primarily because as road warriors, we are always packing for the next trip. Road Warrior came across a few new packing tips for us frequent travelers.
For those of us who travel with a partner, consider putting some of each person’s belongings in each suitcase (at least one outfit for each person in each bag). The odds of two checked suitcases being lost are pretty small. If one of your bags is lost, Extended Stay Hotels(sm) has you covered; you can take advantage of on-premise laundry facilities open 24 hours a day.
If you pack battery-operated items in checked luggage, consider turning the batteries around during travel. That way if the switch is accidently moved to the “on” position you won’t arrive at your destination with dead batteries.
The final packing tip for today is to mark your bag in a way that you can spot it on the baggage carousel among all the other similarly colored bags. A bright colored ribbon wrapped tightly around the handle is an easy way to ID your bag. If the bag has handles on the top and side, mark both. Tie the ribbon tight and avoid long ends that can be caught in equipment.

Dealing with an "Oops"

Travel enough and you will probably have to deal with unexpected stains. Road Warrior offers a few tricks to keep you looking and feeling at the top of your game.
Pick up a couple of small plastic bottles and fill one with liquid laundry detergent with enzymes and the other a mild hand dishwashing liquid. If you have a ketchup or barbecue sauce stain, blot or flush with water. Then apply a few drops of dishwashing liquid, rub and rinse. If the stain isn’t gone, mix one part white vinegar to three parts water and rinse well. You will want to launder immediately to remove the last remnants of the stain or vinegar odor.
Laundry detergent with enzymes is great to pretreat grass stains or makeup. If removing makeup is your aim, pretreat and then launder in the hottest water safe for the fabric. With any stain removal process, always be sure the fabric is colorfast by trying the process on a hidden spot first.
Fortunately for you, your Extended Stay Hotels location has 24-hour laundry access so you can always look your best.
Avoiding Unnecessary TSA Delay

If you’re one of those poor souls who has been detained because someone with your name is on the Transportation Safety Agency (TSA) watchlist, relief may be on the way. The new Congress has taken up a bill, HR 559, intended to fix the problem.
Named the Fair, Accurate, Secure and Timely Redress Act, or FAST Redress for short, this bill allows travelers in this circumstance to have their names placed on a “cleared list,” meaning they can board aircraft without the unnecessary hassle. While the bill has not yet passed, it seems to have broad support.
Having to endure unnecessary security screening is no way to begin either business or leisure travel. Road Warrior wants you to arrive at your Extended Stay Hotel relaxed and ready for work or to start a great vacation.

Trade Show Preparedness

With travel budgets under fire, business gatherings at trade shows are a cost effective way to meet new and current customers. If you are planning to attend a trade show, here are some tips to keep in mind.
First, be sure your hotel room is comfortable and with enough room to organize your materials. You probably also want to avoid trade show food, like hot dogs and doughnuts, so get a room with a full kitchen. Extended Stay Hotels cover both of these needs and, with almost 700 hotels nationwide, there is likely one near your next show.
Comfort is always a top priority, and since many convention halls have concrete floors, be sure to safeguard your feet and legs. A quick Internet search delivers all sorts of shoe inserts, many with some amazing foam. Don’t forget to include support stockings to keep blood circulating and muscles comfortable.
Above all, be security conscious. Take advantage of safety deposit boxes, and if you plan to have a portable computer in your booth, be certain it contains no private or sensitive information.
Road Warrior Tips on Winter Travel
February 6, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack
As most road warriors know all too well, winter travel means a whole new set of challenges. Not surprisingly, the American Red Cross has come out with suggestions for emergency kits for home or vehicle.
While items like a first-aid kit, a flashlight and batteries are self evident, there are other things that we might not always remember to have in our vehicles. For example, how many of us carry a bag of sand or cat litter to gain traction on ice? While seasoned highway travelers carry jumper cables, a fire extinguisher and maps, how many take blankets, sleeping bags or a shovel?
We want to be sure you arrive safely at any of our Extended Stay Hotels, so here are some of the other items to have with you for winter highway travel: extra water, nonperishable, high-energy food, a tire repair kit and pump, flares, extra clothing to keep dry and a battery-powered radio.

Grading the Government
February 2, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack
Wouldn’t you just love to grade the federal government on its travel related activities? That’s just what the National Business Travel Association did recently, handing out what some might call a politically correct “C” for overall performance.
According to recent reports, the nation’s major business travel organization gave “D” grades for the government’s funding of the Federal Aviation Administration and for the taxes it imposes on air travelers. Getting a “C” were the government’s management of airline performance and aviation congestion as well as its handling of the Terrorist Watch List. Top grades, an “A” and a “B,” went to government programs dealing with international travel.
Looking for an A+ travel experience? You can always find a great hotel room at an exceptional rate at any of the nearly 700 Extended Stay Hotels locations nationwide and in Canada.
