Holiday Airport Security

November 19, 2007 | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack

Tis the season for giving. In the coming weeks it will not be an uncommon sight to see business and holiday travelers alike, strolling through airports with luggage full to the brim with gifts. Holiday airport security can be especially hectic, so being aware of rules and regulations can be essential to having as smooth a trip as possible.

Knowing what is approved for taking along in your carry-on luggage can make your wait at airport security shorter and easier. During the holiday season, many people may be taking gifts with them in their carry-ons for safe keeping. However, this may not always be the best option. This year airport security will be paying close attention to remote-controlled toys in carry-on bags, and the TSA suggests that travelers put them in checked luggage to avoid additional screening. Not only would the extra screening take time, but having to open a carefully wrapped package just to get through security could be frustrating.  If items are too fragile to check, consider shipping packages to your destination beforehand.  Also take the time to make sure you are up on the current passport regulations and 3-1-1 rules to further ensure a smooth breeze throught the holiday aiport security.

Healthy Eating

With the holiday season nearly upon us, many people are dreading gaining those unwanted pounds from holiday eating. Overindulging during the holiday season is a largely unavoidable reality for many, due to numerous parties, celebrations, and feasts. Luckily, portioned eating done before and after these holiday weekends can still keep waistlines from getting completely out of line. The busy Road Warrior has the added challenge of trying to make healthful choices while working long hours, mainly away from home, during these crucial pre and post-holiday weeks and months. Fortunately, calorie counting has been made easer and more convenient through the Internet.

Nowadays there are great healthy eating sites that can take the guess work out of eating right wherever you are. All you need to track your eating habits is access to the Internet, and one thing that is not hard to find while on the go is a Wi-Fi connection. eDiets offers a variety of diets to choose from for a reasonable fee, and you can personalize your meal plan, print shopping lists, get free expert support, customized fitness plans, and progress tracking. Or you can try calorie counting with TheDailyPlate.com, where you can keep a food journal, fitness log, and view graphs and breakdowns of your monthly intake for free. You don't need to do your own math or guess how much fat, protein, or carbs you need in a day, it's all calculated for you. Both sites also offer forums and chat so you can get support and connect with others.

Healthy eating on the road can be hard, but at least you can arm yourself with useful tools. Extended Stay Hotels have full kitchens and Wi-Fi connections in every suite so making your own food and logging what you eat can be a snap.

For business travelers, Reno and Sacramento can be two highly frequented destinations. Once that meeting has wrapped, and you are in need of some rest and relaxation, why not take advantage of nearby Lake Tahoe as the perfect side trip to get away for a while. Lake Tahoe is conveniently located about 2 hours from Sacramento and around an hour from Reno for a close getaway.

Even though the warm weather has gone, with tanning and water sports mainly off the menu, you can still take advantage of numerous winter activities. Lake Tahoe is chock full of great shopping, spas, restaurants, theaters, casinos, hiking trails, bike paths, and twelve alpine ski resorts with down-hill and cross country skiing. One fun event that is coming up soon is the Squaw Valley Festival of Lights on November 24, which has live music and other festivities.

Lake Tahoe has a diverse range of activities to suite all tastes on both its Northern and Southern shores.
