Extended Vacations

Business travelers going to vacation-friendly destinations may find their extended stay accommodations busier than usual.  Extended stay lodging was originally developed for business travelers or those looking for a long term hotel stay due to relocation or other temporary housing needs.  However, these suites are also becoming increasingly popular for leisure travelers as well.  A recent Newsweek report notes that this may be part of the reason for a 5% jump in the demand for extended stay lodging during 2006.

What is drawing so many travelers to accommodations such as Extended Stay Hotels?  It may be the extra space which is ideal for a long stay or for a family.  It could also be the kitchen, offering more options and a budget alternative for eating while traveling.  There are also helpful amenities such as laundry facilities.  All these touches designed for long term visitors can be perfect additions for shorter trips.

So whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, keep Extended Stay Hotels in mind.

Airline Layovers

New airport security measures are popping up everyday and each airport has its own procedures.  These measures can cost you valuable time and cause you to miss much-needed connections.  Some of them you can avoid and some you cannot, but paying careful attention to your flight details and the obstacles you will face during your trip can help you get to your destination as soon as possible.

Whenever you can, be sure to limit the number of connections to get to your destination.  These used to be merely a pain but now can be an even bigger hassle with increased security and chronically late flights.  Also, if there is a connection, plan for a long layover and choose the airport carefully.  Flying with an airline that has both domestic and international flights at one terminal may be able to spare you the need to go through security twice.  Also, take into consideration the fact that some airports are busier and have more stringent security, so picking the right one is vital.  The TSA has some good information about current security wait times at different airports.  It's always better to wait around a little longer than to rush, worry, and miss flights.

Airport security has become one big headache and understaffed airlines have added to the problem.  Sometimes you just have to fly to get to your destination and when that is the case, plan carefully, limit layovers, and be prepared.  Remember to call the airline ahead of time to find out when you should arrive and if there are any delays.  Then just be patient, get through all the lines, bring something to do while you wait, and enjoy your flight.  Getting to your meeting a little less stressed from flying can make a big difference on your trip.
