Smoking in Hotel Room

September 29, 2006 | Permalink

With Marriott recently announcing the ban on smoking in all their hotels, it's possible smokers may start to feel unwelcome in their rooms.  This is especially true if one is going to be at the hotel for a while.  Smokers need to feel they have the flexibility to light up in the privacy of their hotel room.  When restricted, this burden can add to the stress of traveling.  However, Extended Stay Hotels still offers a choice for their studio suite hotels.

Extended Stay Hotels works hard to make sure that all guests feel as if they are in their own home as in their accommodations.  While non-smokers have the right to get a room that is smoke-free and set apart from the smoking rooms, smokers will also be able to be comfortable in their own rooms.  That is why there are designated smoking and non-smoking rooms and Extended Stay Hotels works hard to place guests in the area where they will be happiest.

Extended Stay Hotels understands that all guests are unique in their accommodation requirements.  That is why all Extended Stay guests have the choice between smoking and non-smoking rooms.  Guests will normally be assigned the room that best matches their needs to encourage a pleasant, hassle free check-in.

As a consultant that spends over 200 nights per year on the road, I was truly saddened that Marriott decided to take the side of the do-gooders and "bannish" smokers from their premises. We do have a way to announce our displeasure however - pure cold cash! Smokers stand up and refuse to stay at their properties. Their are MANY hotel chains around the world that love having us, and I know my money will be well spent with them. Happy New Years Marriott!

Marriott in Hartford Conn charged me $250 for smoking in my room. I did not smoke in the room. It looks like they have done this to alot of people. Anybody know what to do? Is there a class action suit against them yet?

Truly this is an outrage for people that smoke. I just stayed at a non smoking hotel There was a sign in the room said "For the convience for all of our guests this is a nonsmoking hotel" That is a crock. It should have read "For the convience of our nonsmoking guests and the rest of you smokers can be inconvienced." I am a smoker and clearly these ideas are from nonsmokers that have no consideration for smokers and their habit. I will not stay in a nonsmoking hotel again if I can help it. To be honest it is to tempting to smoke in the room anyway and who wants to pay a 250.00 fine. It is to much like you are getting graded on your worthiness because you are smokers. Give the Smokers and smoking room and nonsmokers a nonsmoking. My money spends just as well as a nonsmoker. If people are so worried about it then go after the tobacco companies and shut them down. Think of all the tax revenue the government would be missing out on. In the mean time I will not stay at anymore hotels that are smoke free. I'll find another hotel to give my money to.
