Avoiding Crowds
May 9, 2005 | Permalink
With domestic traffic on the rise and the AAA noticing an increase in road map sales, the highways may get busy during the summer vacation rush. However, with a little planning, you can stay out of the summer rush with these great travel tips:
- Book your trip in advance to avoid disappointment on arrival. This may also give you the chance to determine if your hotel is a family favorite, mobbed with children, or caters to a potentially quieter clientele.
- Try to avoid overcrowded beaches and instead opt for inland destinations that are less frequented destinations in the heat. For instance, many cities have a lot to do, especially on the riverfront or in air-conditioning, and they're less tourist-populated in the summer months.
- Choose restaurants away from tourist attractions and busy hotels in order to beat the crowds or even choose a hotel with a kitchen to do your own cooking once in a while.
- Look for ways to get ahead of the line, which may be full of disorganized tourists that are unsure of where to go. Airlines and hotels often have frequent customer locations that will put you in an area of your own; in the line and hopefully on the plane as well.
